Governor General of Canada received Ambassador Suárez Salvia´s letters of credence

On June 15, 2016, Ambassador Marcelo Suárez Salvia presented letters of credence to the Governor General of Canada, David Johnsoton.

The ceremony took place at the official residence of Governor General, Rideau Hall.

At the end of the ceremony the Governor General expressed the auspicious horizon that opens to improve the important bilateral relationship that is sustained on a solid base of common interests shared by Argentina and Canada. In this regard, he agreed to draw attention to the community of universal values and joint actions that are shared at the multilateral level.

With a view to the immediate future, it was agreed to converge towards an increase in trade and investment and to promote increased links in the science and technology sector, including cooperation between universities.

Marcelo Suárez Salvia is a lawyer and a career diplomat.
Prior to joining the Foreign Service of Argentina in 1997, he worked as an advisor for the Ministry of the Economy and Public Works from 1992 to 1994.
Working for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he served as a Press Attaché at the Embassy of Argentina in Italy (1999-2000). He was Chief of Staff at the Ministry of International Trade and Cooperation in the Province of Buenos Aires (2000-2001).
He is an expert in multilateral institutions focused on economic and social issues. He was posted to the United Nations in New York from 2003 to 2008. He coordinated Argentina’s Chairmanship of the Group of 77 and China during 2011. He has been Delegate of Argentina to several UN Conferences and Summits.
From 2009 to 2012 he served as Director for Multilateral Cooperation in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He is a Member of the Committee of Experts of the Perez-Guerrero Trust Fund for South-South Cooperation.
He served as Consul General of Argentina in Chicago from 2012 to 2016.
Before being appointed Ambassador of Argentina to Canada early in 2016, he was Chief of Staff of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship.
